Why Regular Dental Visits Are Important

 In Uncategorized

While the standard recognized timeline for dentist’s visits is twice a year, the American Dental Association actually recommends a visit every four to six months for dental cleanings and exams. This greatly helps maintain a healthy mouth, gums, and teeth.

Unfortunately, many people think they do not need to see the dentist as often. They have a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash, what do they need a dentist for? Well, even someone with impeccable oral hygiene still has places that are missed. This is where plaque accumulates, and you require a dentist to remove them.

What Does a Regular Dental Visit Consist of?
The goal of a dental visit is to identify if there are any dental issues. To begin, x-rays are conducted in quadrants to see all areas of the mouth. This helps to see if there are any hidden bone structures like wisdom teeth or cavities in the teeth. It can also show the alignment of the teeth to dictate if braces would be necessary.

The cleaning will consist of the dentist removing any plaque and tartar that has built up. After, a fluoride treatment is performed to help strengthen the enamel of the teeth.

Post-Dental Visit
It is important to continue keeping your teeth as clean as possible after your visit by brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing once a day. As long as you consistently keep up this practice and visit your dentist often, you can avoid having to deal with larger issues such as getting cavities filled. Simply going to the dentist two or three times a year can help avoid other oral health issues from creeping up.
